Can I view the Auction Catalogue in lot number order on one page?

Yes, just like the old website you can. Select Auctions & Sales -> November Auction #292 from the menu bar. This displays the auction lots in lot number order. To display ALL the items on one page select View: ALL in the top right hand corner of the listing. The listing performance should be excellent. View: ALL works for any listing, so you can also display all lots on the entire site on one page

Can I search for a specific item or groups of items?

Yes, unlike the old website you can search for specific items without having to trawl through stuff you’re not interested in. Use the search bar at the top of the website page to search for key words, countries, sg numbers etc. On some pages (e.g. this one and About Us) there’s also a search bar in the side panel. For example a search on ‘GB 1d black’ will retrieve all items with those terms in the description. Select All Categories to search all our items, or use the drop down to select a specific category to narrow your search, such as Commonwealth or Accessories.

We’ve also introduced tags on most of our products to help you easily explore our range of related items across multiple categories. This might be a geographical area of the world (e.g. Midde East), printing method (Line-Engraved Issues) or design collection (e.g. KGV Royal Cypher). Just click into an item your interested in and then click on the Tag link(s) displayed. Again click View: ALL to display all related items on a single page.

How do I place my bids for an auction?

You can create a bid form by adding items to your Basket. If you’d like to bid on an item at the Estimate Price you can add it to your basket directly from the catalogue listing, just click the Add to Basket button for the item. If you’d like to bid (ideally) more than estimate, from the item page, simply enter how much you want to bid on the item in the box Your Max Bid (GBP), then click the Add to Basket button. In either case a message appears to indicate your bid has been added to the Basket.

Bidding steps can be found here

When you’re ready to review your bids, select Basket (My Items) on the menu or the shopping cart symbol on the top right of the page. If you’re happy click Proceed to Checkout to Place Your Order/ Place Bids, just like you would on a normal retail site. You’ll need to enter email and address details to proceed, but you don’t need to create an account if you’d rather not. Clicking Place Order or Bids will send your order (your bid form) to us. You should receive a confirmation email.

If you don’t want to use the website to place bids, you can email them to us at county@stampauctions.co.uk or call during UK office hours. Details at the top of this page.

Can I place bids for lots and order fixed price items on the same order?

Yes you can add a mixture of bids and fixed price items on the same order. You no longer need to trawl through multiple lists and can check out in one process. The only difference is you are not able to offer a bid on fixed priced items. If you want fixed priced items sent separately from any lots you may win at auction, add a note to your order (although this may incur two postage charges), otherwise we’ll combine items into one package for you.

Can I return or exchange items?

Usually yes. Please see our Return & Refunds Policy for details

Can I pay by card directly?

Yes. You can now pay securely by card directly on this website, just select Card under Payment Options on Checkout.

Your card is never charged until after we process your order, so there may be a delay between you placing an order and the amount leaving your account. You’ll be notified by email of your total order costs once your order has been processed. We sometimes disable card payments while an auction is open for bids, and re-enable payments once the closing date approaches.

We’re a bit different from a regular retail site as we don’t always know the total order cost upfront.

If you’re interested here’s why….

Firstly, for auction items it’s not clear in advance of an auction closing which lots an individual customer might win and what the hammer price for each lot might be. So on placing your bid form, the outcome is unknown – you might win the item for less than your maximum bid or not win an item you placed a bid on. This means what you are eventually charged may well differ from the amount on your bid form, so we don’t take payment straight away

Secondly, we charge shipping at Royal Mail cost – nothing more. Postage cost depends on size, weight, value and destination of a package, so again we don’t take payment until we know shipping cost accurately. For all orders we add a nominal postage charge for your geographical zone during the checkout process, but if your package is larger, heavier or more valuable, this incurs an extra charge. But if it’s small and light, postage may be less than the nominal charge.

Entering card details at the checkout ‘pre-authorises’ an amount on your card for us to collect. We then try to collect payment once we’ve processed your order. Most of the time this works well, but pre-authorised amounts expire after a set period, and occasionally additional postage costs exceed the amount authorised. If this happens we’ll send you a payment link in a confirmation email.
